With the new A4 face, will the RS4 look like this?

When I first saw the new headlight design Audi gave the A4 range, I was not too sure it was a good thing. After seeing how it could complement the looks of the (likely) coming RS4, however, I am much more positive about it.

The lower front is supposedly inspired by the latest iteration of Audi’s RS design language in the shape of the updated RS3.

I hope the front ends up looking like this.

It will look Audi-ish, with slightly more Audiness for Audi nerds to nerd over. More important is what drivetrain it’ll get, and whether it’ll have a manual, be 4- or 5-door, or trim a couple hundred pounds of weight.

Sticking with the 3.0 V6 would require a bigger supercharger, and even that would be anticlimatic as I don’t see them pulling 415+hp out of a 3.0, but I don’t see them handing over the TT 4.0 V8 either.

You’d be surprised how many of the S4 (B8) were treated to a power hike. ABT, MTM and several other German tuners offered full-warranty ECU upgrades that raised the output to something along the lines of 435 hp and ~500 Nm.

Keep in mind the existence of the Macan Turbo and its engine, too, as that one might be a candidate as well.

It’ll be a sad day when they let the 4.2 V8 go. :?

I know you can chip it, but there’s not a ton of boost physically left on the stock SC, they just underrated its stock output. Up to maybe 5k rpm there’s only a couple psi you gain from completely inactivating the bypass valve...they basically left enough on the table to let the computer compensate for altitude/temp.

Above that boost is kept flat so keeping the bypass shut gives you back linear power gain but even with a pulley and supporting mods you’re just limited by the SC displacement. Guys wanting 400 to the wheels (which I think the RS should have) were swapping for bigger units.

You’re probably right in that there isn’t much more to be had from the same setup ... yet the “freed” S4 did pile on speed in a quicker fashion than the B7 RS4 with it’s V8. Good enough to make me want the respective Avant quite bad. ;)

Thinking about it, I’d somehow like to see them go back to a turbo six for the RS4, even though the V8 sounded pretty spectacular to my ears. Keep the V8 for the (R)S6 series.
